Executive Chef – Hussein Haji
The MacEwan Conference and Event Centre is proud to present our Executive Chef Hussein Haji. He brings a lifelong passion for food and more than 20 years of experience to our kitchen.
Throughout his career, Chef Haji has held key roles at the Calgary Marriott Downtown Hotel, TELUS Convention Centre, and Bearspaw Golf Club. He led Marriot’s Culinary Council for Western Canada, and has traveled across North America assisting with hotel openings from Vancouver to San Francisco to Fort Lauderdale. Most recently, Chef Haji served dual roles as Executive Chef for both the downtown Calgary Marriott and the Delta hotels.
Chef Haji grew up around food – one of his earliest and fondest memories is standing on a kitchen stool next to his grandfather and learning to cook eggs. He began his career working at Earl’s Kitchen and Bar at the age of 16, and later attended SAIT’s Culinary Arts program, followed by their Hospitality Management program.
Chef Haji is inspired by both home-grown and international flavours, blending his understanding of cuisines and flours from around the world with locally-sourced foods. His ethos is to let the dish speak for itself.
